American social media mogul and computer scientist Mark Zuckerberg has announced the rebrand of his social networking company Facebook, which will now be known as Meta.
The news was made public during the annual Connect conference, and is said to be part of the company's shift to becoming an 'even more immersive' platform, and a so-called 'metaverse company'. The name change will only apply to the parent company, and will not impact individual social media platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, and the Facebook CEO and President shared an image on his Instagram account, captioned 'Hello, Meta'.
